Welcome back babes! Today's post is a short update as we're about to take off for NYFW, and I'm in the midst of organizing everything for our trip tonight. RE: NYFW - sooo it's currently raining in New York (yikes), but regardless I'm so looking forward to it, and we have lots of fun shows and events planned.  Stay tuned for tons of rainy street style and updates this coming week, and make sure you're following along in Instagram.  This is my first time actually attending the whole week so I'm really looking forward to it.

More on fashion week later. As for today's post, I'm talking about a Fall trend I've been seeing pop up everywhere, navy blue.

It seems like every season there is one color or pattern that really sticks out, and this season for me it's navy. To be totally honest, I've never been that into the color navy in the past, but now it seems like I can't stop buying it. From boots to jackets, it's everywhere right now, and it seems to go so well with Fall's other big colors - mustard yellow and red.

Navy Favorites

In today's post I'm wearing a navy trench coat, which is classic and can worn in so many ways - it's the perfect Fall staple. Trench coats are a big trend this season, so navy is the perfect neutral color if you're thinking of purchasing one. I've paired the trench coat over a mock neck red and navy striped shirt, and a denim cargo skirt with black heeled boots and a my Furla Scoop bag.

24 Hours in New York City
The Style Sauce 24 Hours in New York Style blog

What would you do if you had 24 hours in New York? Well, that recently happened to me, and it just so happened to be my birthday that day, too. Being a person born two days after Christmas isn't always the most fun, but it does have it's perks. Perks include: everything being decked out and festive, fun Christmas/ New Years things to do, and snow. The cons include places like Bryant park ice skating rink being SUPER packed, everyone traveling/ being out of town, and snow. I put snow as a pro and a con because while I love it, not everyone does. So here's what we did given those points. Come along on a day in New York with me!

To start, we decided we wanted to explore a new part of the city I hadn't seen before, so we headed to Brooklyn. The day started with a coffee from Sweat Shop, the cutest little coffee shop a stone's throw from the main drag in Williamsburg.

I decided to wear all pink on my birthday, because it's my favorite color right now and I'm really into monochrome dressing at the moment! Why wouldn't you wear all pink when given the choice, am I right? I actually wasn't cold during the day at all with a beanie and second layer under the sweater, and over the knee boots are surprisingly practical for walking around the city and keeping your legs warm. A backpack is a great way to carry more stuff than a cross body will hold while still being portable and chic.

After coffee I changed into jeans and a long camel coat, because this California girl was getting COLD. Our friends Cole and Caroline then took us over to Dumbo, which was another first for me. If you've never been, for sure go to this area to check out the views!

We also stopped into a few shops, one of them was an awesome vintage store where I swooped a 1970's silk scarf and tried on these 80's french sunglasses.

After we explored Dumbo, we headed to Manhattan for some more site seeing and dinner. First we (attempted) Bryant Park for outdoor ice skating, but it was wayyyy too busy. We had to settle for sipping on a whisky on their patio while watching the ice skaters instead of participating, which was obviously totally fine.

After taking in the ice skaters at Bryant Park it was time for dinner, and we headed for Bill's Townhouse, an upscale French style dining experience I will NEVER forget. To say our meal was decadent would be an understatement. We were truly spoiled and everything was absolutely incredible. We noshed on everything from oysters to lobster and steak. SO GOOD! I can't wait to go back.

The rest of the evening consisted of bouncing around some of New York's awesome bars and enjoying the evening with friends, much of which is a little fuzzy and I don't have the greatest pics of, ha! That being said, I could not have asked for a better day in New York, and can't wait to be back! All in all, it was a great success. We ate, we drank, we shopped, and it was perfect.

What are some of your favorite things to do in the Big Apple? I'd love to hear for my next trip!

xx, Genevieve

Silk Blouses for Fall
the style sauce street style fashion blog silk blouse fall fashion 2016

Classic staples like the silk blouse are hardly going anywhere. I have some in my closet that I've had for years that I can still break out from time to time. While you can wear silk almost any time of year, long sleeved silk blouses I usually reserve for the Fall and Winter. There's another reason for this- silk is the perfect decadent pairing to velvet or cashmere, and these fabrics almost always resurface in collections for the cooler months. ESPECIALLY velvet this year guys, it's like the darling of F/W fashion for 2016. Every editor as made it THE "it" thing. While I don't wear something because someone tells me to, ever, I'd have to agree that it goes really well with all of the trends that are big this year. More on that later.

Anyways, back to silk. There are few fabrics I love to wear more than silk. I think silk and cashmere are pretty much just the best things in life and I should probably live in New York where I can wear them more (any excuse to move to New York, ha..... )  That being said, this season I plan on wearing lots of silk, especially by way of tops. Pictured here I'm wearing this beautiful, and actually really affordable lavender silk top with equally beautiful sleeves and detailing from Topshop. I've paired it with black accordion culottes also from Topshop. I topped (no pun intended) the outfit off with my new favorite basics, mules from Roberto Deville, a small French designer with well-made leather goods. Find those here.

Check out the look featured here and let me know what you think. I plan on wearing something like this for the next few months until I can finally wear some heavy jackets and full length pants! Shop some of my favorite silk blouse selections below, as well as this full look.

Stay saucy.
